Fanny Jane Cosby one of my favorite hymn writers wrote the song “Some day the silver cord will break.: It really got me thinking about the certainty of that one day we never dare talk about.
The Silver Cord
Ecclesiastes 12:6 “Remember him—before the silver cord is severed, and the golden bowl is broken; before the pitcher is shattered at the spring, and the wheel broken at the well,” The silver cord like the umbilical links the child to mother is the life giving link.
The certainty of the day
Psalms 89:48 “What man is he that lives, and shall not see death? shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave? Selah.” Death is the beaten road of all mankind: it is the way of all flesh.
When it breaks…
Fanny Cosby’s song says “Some day my earthly house will fall, I cannot tell how soon ’twill be.” We know not the time when the silver cord breaks hence we need to live in the present.
